We all love a good K-drama but the brilliance of Korean television is not only restricted to its various fictional drama series but also extends to its numerous reality shows. While there are veteran hosts and their corresponding shows, a new number of variety shows are also emerging on YouTube and is being hosted by rappers and singers. We take a look at seven such fun Korean variety shows that can help you unwind.

We have all wanted to go on a road trip with our friends and in this show, K-pop idol Rain and entertainer Noh Hong-chul do exactly that. This Netflix show documents the two friends’ road trip across South Korea, complete with good food, gorgeous scenic beauty, and relaxing and fun antics. Although Rain and Noh Hong-chul themselves share differences, as is evident during the course of the show, it does not cause any conflict during their travels. Rather, their synergy creates the perfect vibes that make even the viewers relaxed.

The Game Caterers

If you are a K-pop fan, chances are that you have heard of this popular show that often features K-pop stars. In a recent episode, it featured artistes from HYBE Entertainment, home to pop titans BTS who had visited the show last year. Hosted by Na PD (Na Yeong-sook), who is equal parts fun and strict, this is an entertaining show full of exciting games. The games also come with prizes, making it all the more amusing to watch.

2 Days 1 Night

Another travel-based show, in this one a cast of members (that changes with every season) visit different places in South Korea (and sometimes, offshore islands) for two days and one night. There are various games that are played with the cast during the mealtimes. If a member loses a game, they will have to face penalties that often include sleeping outdoors, snack dinners only and more. The members also interact with locals, which makes it more interesting.

Living Alone

We are almost all guilty of wanting a peek at a celebrity’s life and this show provides just that. It essentially follows celebrities who live alone. It provides quite an in-depth look. While there is a fixed cast of celebrities who return every week, there are others who come as guests once in a while. Some of the show’s most popular episodes include ones featuring MAMAMOO’s Hwasa, Squid Games’ Anupam Tripathi, SHINEE’s Key and more.

Knowing Bros

Knowing Bros is an amusing show, not only because they feature a great and funny cast but also because their guests are put through informative games that help viewers know more about them. The fixed cast includes Super Junior’s Heechul, wrestler and TV host Kang Ho-dong and others. The cast pretend to be students in a class where the guests arrive in school uniform as if they are being transferred there. However, they need to pass tests that are presented to be a part of the class, which comprises the show. From BTS to Shinee, Itzy to Blackpink, the show has had an impressive line-up of guests.

Youn’s Stay

If you are looking for a relaxing watch, Youn’s Stay is the perfect option. Produced by Na PD of The Game Caterers, it revolves around guests to Korea, especially those who have been visiting during the pandemic. The celebrity cast includes veteran actress Youn Yuh-jung along with others such as Choi Woo-shik and Park Seo-joon. These celebrities cater to the guests to make their stay comfortable. The show is set in a quaint hanok and its warm vibes are relaxing.

No Prepare with Lee Youngji

Chaotic meets fun and entertaining in this new show by rapper Lee Youngji, and is undoubtedly one of the most popular Korean variety Shows right now. Keep a few tissues handy while you watch this show because there will surely be tears from laughter. Set in Lee’s apartment, it features guests coming and sharing drinks with her while talking about their life, career and everything else. The drinks flow easily and guests get tipsy and even drunk!
