Singer-actress Selena Gomez has decided to take a break from social media to focus on “what really matters”, the Only Murders in the Building star announced via Instagram stories on Wednesday.
“I am off social media for a while. I’m focusing on what really matters,” the 31-year-old wrote on her Instagram story, sharing a video of her boyfriend, American record producer and actor Benny Blanco, playing with two children.
Selena had taken a break from social media in October citing global "hate, violence, and terror" as the reason. In her note she mentioned that “people being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific” and that “all people” need to be protected.
The post came shortly after Hamas militants stormed into Israel, touching off the Israel-Palestine war.
Following a break from social media in February 2023, Selena had revealed in an interview with InStyle magazine that the temporary disconnection from the virtual world had positively impacted her mental health, considerably reducing unnecessary negativity and comparisons.
A video of Selena and singer-songwriter Taylor Swift’s inaudible interaction from the recently held Golden Globe Awards went viral on social media, with netizens lip-reading their conversation and assuming that they were talking about Kylie Jenner and her boyfriend Timothee Chalamet.
Selena’s upcoming studio album is slated to come out in March 2024. Besides, she is set to star in a biopic chronicling the life of the 11-time Grammy-winner Linda Ronstadt.
