Jimmy Shergill was definitely the heartthrob of the 2000s, stealing hearts with his praiseworthy performances in Mohabbatein (2000), A Wednesday! (2008) and Munna Bhai MBBS (2003).
In Mohabbatein, his character Karan was a romantic hero determined to add a dash of colour in his love interest Kiran’s monochromatic life. Their bond was adorable, reliving the comfort of old-school romance. In A Wednesday! he ventured into the action genre and aced it impressively. Determination, courage and perseverance defined his rock-solid personality building him up as a committed inspector and an inspiring character. In the comedy film Munna Bhai MBBS, his character Zaheer reminded us that every moment counts and it is impractical to brood over the future excessively. His transformation from a despondent young man to a cheerful one enjoying his interests was heartening and emphasised the impact of optimism in our lives. (Which are your top three favourite Jimmy Shergill roles?... September 28)
Aayman Anwar Ali
First on the list for me would be Munna Bhai MBBS (2003) in which Jimmy plays the role of a cancer patient. Zaheer has a terminal disease and has nothing to look forward to from life. The pathos of a young man about to die is very movingly captured by Jimmy. Next would be, of course the Tanu Weds Manu series. In both parts 1 and 2, Jimmy essays the role of a pivotal vertex in a love triangle between Kangana Ranaut and Madhavan. As Raja, a gangster with a heart of gold, Jimmy again impresses us with amazing acting skills.
However, it is in the princely role of Aditya Pratap Singh in the three Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster film series directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, that Jimmy really shines as an actor. Playing a royal heir to a tattered legacy, braving betrayals and opposition, palace intrigues and murder attempts, Saheb emerges unscathed and raring to go.

Jimmy Shergill is a fantastic actor. Since his debut in Bollywood with the film Maachis, directed by legendary Gulzar in 1996, Jimmy has mesmerised all Bolly-buffs including me with his memorable performances in several films to date. My top three favourite Jimmy Shergill roles are Raja Awasthi from Tanu Weds Manu, Mihir from Hum Tum and Saheb from Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster.
