Canadian actress Neve Campbell has confirmed her return as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming instalment of the horror franchise Scream, announcing that the yet-to-be-titled Scream 7 will be directed by the original Scream writer Kevin Williamson.

Campbell, an integral part of the franchise since its inception, expressed her joy at being invited back into the world of Scream. Her absence in the previous instalment, released last year, left fans eager for her return. Her last appearance as Sidney Prescott was in the 2022 reboot of the series.

“It’s always been such a blast and an honour to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me has never waned,” Campbell wrote on Instagram.

Additionally, Campbell revealed her longtime aspiration of collaborating with Kevin Williamson in a directorial capacity within the Scream universe. “While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7,” she wrote.

“This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson,” Campbell signed off.

The road to Scream 7 has seen its share of developments including notable exits and changes within the cast and crew. Melissa Barrera's departure from the project due to social media controversies surrounding comments on the conflict in Gaza made headlines. Subsequent departures, including that of Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon, added to the project's tumultuous journey.
