In his 18-year-long career in Bengali and Hindi films, actor Saswata Chatterjee has essayed various types of characters —good, bad and ugly— and several of them are close to his heart. But he is yet to play a deaf and mute person.

The 51-year-old Bengali actor, whose portrayal of contract killer Bob Biswas in Sujoy Ghosh's 2012 film Kahaani made him famous outside the state, is now yearning to get such a character.

“I have done many roles in my career, But I am yet to portray the character of a deaf and mute man. As an actor, that remains one unfulfilled wish of mine," he told PTI when asked if there is one role he wants to portray.

He had done critically acclaimed roles such as a mercurial film-maker in Meghe Dhaka Tara (2013), an ace sleuth in Ebar Shabor (2015) and the ghost of a don in Bhooter Bhabishyat (2012) to name a few among his over 50 movies. His Hindi movies include Dhaakad, Dil Bechara and Jagga Jasoos.

"For me, the important factors remain the story, script and of course the role of a film," Chatterjee said.

His kitty is full of projects outside West Bengal. Besides Anurag Kashyap's just released Dobaaraa, Rajkumar Santoshi's Bad Boy is yet to be released. A Disney+ Hotstar series is going on, while a double-version movie in Telugu and Hindi is in the pipeline.

Asked how he manages to strike a balance between West Bengal and Mumbai, he said, "Because I love my work. If you love your work, you won't feel stressed."

His latest film, Mahisasur Marddini, is awaiting release. The Ranjan Ghosh directorial revolves around incidents which unfold on a fateful night when some visitors drop in at the house of a woman, where she stays with four paying guests.

Chatterjee said, "I think not many films were made on such a subject in the past. No other film was made on this theme in Bengali."

Chatterjee has a pivotal role in the film which will be released on November 25.
