Akshay Kumar’s former Indian Air Force captain Vir Mhatre goes to great lengths to start a low-cost airline for ordinary people in the trailer of Sarfira, a Hindi remake of Suriya’s National Award-winning Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, dropped by the makers on Tuesday.
The two-minute-30-second-long trailer begins with Akshay introducing himself as a man hailing from a village near Jarandeshwar. Neck-deep in debt, Akshay’s Vir dreams of turning his life around and starting a new business. He runs from pillar to post to approach ministers with his idea of a low-cost carrier airline, only to get turned down. After his idea gets rejected by Paresh Rawal’s Paresh Goswami, who has built India’s largest airline, Vir takes matters into his own hands and starts appealing directly to the masses.
The public becomes intrigued by Vir’s idea of travelling in his airline only at the cost of one rupee. “Main chahata hu ki aam admi aasman chhu sake, sir (I want the common man to soar into the skies, sir),” Akshay tells a minister frantically, pleading the latter while he pays no heed.
“I don’t just want to break the cost-barrier for the masses, but also the damn caste-barrier,” Vir says at the end of the trailer while explaining to the media how low-cost aviation is as important as the basic necessities of life.
The Sudha Kongara-directed film is slated to arrive in theatres on July 12, two months after the release of Akshay’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan which also stars Tiger Shroff.
Touted as “an incredible story of chasing your dreams”, Sarfira is created by the makers of Airlift, Baby, Jai Bhim, OMG 2 and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
Apart from Akshay and Paresh, Sarfira also stars Radhika Madan. Helmed by National Award-winning director Sudha Kongara, who also directed Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru, the film is produced by Suriya, Cape of Good Films, 2D Entertainment and Abundantia Entertainment.
Soorarai Pottru is the recipient of multiple awards at the National Film Awards in 2022. While Suriya won the award in the best actor category, Aparna Balamurali took home the trophy for best actress.
