Sanya Malhotra wore an outfit designed by her mother Renu at the premiere of her film Mrs. at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) on Friday, crediting the latter for always keeping her “fashionably updated”.
Sharing photos and videos from the occasion on social media, the actress went on to pay tribute to her mother, who she termed as her “personal stylist”.
“This one’s for you, Mumma. From a young age, my mother was my personal stylist, designing and stitching clothes for my sister and me. She devoted herself not only to raising us but also to keeping us fashionably updated,” Sanya wrote on Instagram, dedicating the post to her mother.
“I wanted to honour her by wearing one of her creations at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne for the screening of a film close to my heart, Mrs,” she added.
The pictures shared by Sanya show the actress in a purple two-piece brocade set that she paired with a red brocade jacket and silver stilettos. Red lipstick, a nattily tied-bun adorned with a headband featuring silver kundan pearls and a pair of matching jhumkas raised her glamour quotient.
Recalling how her mother dreamt of studying fashion, Sanya said, “Mumma always told me how she dreamt of studying fashion, but it wasn’t financially feasible at the time. Instead, she poured all her creativity into dressing us beautifully— so much so that I still seek her advice before any big event.”
The actress, who plays Richa in Mrs., received a standing ovation following the screening of the movie at the film festival. “From the screening of Mrs. last night at Hoyts Melbourne Central. There were cheers, tears and a whole lot of overwhelming emotions for the character of Sanya Malhotra in the film. A packed house and a standing ovation summed up the special screening of this lovely film,” the official X page of IFFM wrote alongside pictures from the event.
Directed by Arati Kadav and penned by Harman Baweja and Anu Singh Choudhary, Mrs. is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen. It also stars Nishant Dahiya and Kanwaljeet Singh,
Sanya will be next seen in Kalees’ action-thriller Baby John alongside Varun Dhawan. Also starring Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film is a remake of Atlee’s Tamil movie Theri.
