Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar receives nominations at Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has received nominations for best OTT original and best song at this year’s Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards, the makers announced on Friday.

The period drama, which marks Bhansali’s OTT debut, is competing in the best OTT original category against Korean shows Boyhood and Death's Game, Chinese drama series The Double and Taiwanese show GG Precinct: Season 1. Apart from that, Heeramandi song Sakal Ban, sung by Raja Hasan and penned by Amir Khusro, has got a nomination in the best song category at the awards ceremony organised by Busan International Film Festival and Korea Radio Promotion Association.

“Heeramandi ki mehfil aapki chahat se sajti hai! Truly honoured to receive nominations for ‘Best OTT Original’ and ‘Best Original Song - Sakal Ban’ Thank you for all the love,” production banner Bhansali Productions wrote on Instagram.

Starring Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal Mehta, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Shaikh and Richa Chadha, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar hit Netflix on May 1. The web series marks Fardeen Khan’s comeback to the world of acting after a hiatus of 14 years. Apart from him, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar and Adhyayan Suman also play key roles in the web series.

Set against the backdrop of British-ruled India, the show depicts how courtesans living in Lahore’s oldest red-light district found themselves entangled in a constant power struggle with the anti-colonial movement on the rise.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar went on to become the most-watched Indian series on Netflix in the first week of its launch. It also ranks at No. 2 position globally in 43 countries including India, Canada, France, UK and New Zealand following its release.

The awards ceremony will take place at the BIFF Theater in Busan, South Korea, on October 6 during the Busan International Film Festival.
