Actor Sanjay Dutt on Monday rubbished rumours about him joining politics ahead of the 2024 general elections, requesting fans not to believe any news report or social media post about him contesting the upcoming polls.

“I would like to put all rumours about me joining politics to rest. I am not joining any party or contesting elections. If I do decide to step into the political arena then I will be the first one to announce it. Please refrain from believing what is being circulated in the news about me as of now,” Dutt wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

His post comes amidst speculation about him contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket from Karnal in Haryana. There were rumours that the Congress party was planning to field Dutt against former Haryana CM and BJP candidate Manohar Lal Khattar from the constituency, where BJP won in 2014 and 2019.

Dutt’s ancestral village is in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district. His late father Sunil Dutt and sister Priya Dutt previously served as Congress MPs.

On the work front, Dutt is set to star in the upcoming Akshay Kumar-led film Welcome to the Jungle.
