Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik have been divorced for a few months now, the former tennis player’s sister Anam Mirza has confirmed in an official statement on behalf of the Mirza family, issued a day after pictures of Shoaib’s third wedding with actress Sana Javed went viral.

“Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now,” wrote Anam in her post.

Adding that Sania wishes Shoaib well in his future endeavours, Anam requested Netizens to refrain from unnecessary speculation and respect her sister’s need for privacy during this ‘sensitive’ period of her life.

“At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy,” Anam concluded her note.

Shoaib’s nikkah ceremony with Pakistani actress Sana Javed was held on Saturday. Both Shoaib and Sana recently took to Instagram to share pictures from the event.

“And We created you in pairs,” the former captain of the Pakistani cricket team captioned his wedding photos with Sana.

The Dunk actress also changed her name on Instagram from Sana Javed to Sana Shoaib Malik.

While Shoaib was married to Sania for nearly thirteen years, Sana had previously exchanged vows with singer Umair Jaswal in October 2020.

Sania and Shoaib also have a five-year-old son, Izhaan Mirza Malik.
