San Diego Comic-Con 2023: The Marvels trailer drop, panel discussion on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mutant Mayhem

Even though the ongoing Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strike dimmed the star power at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, the US event offered several interesting developments from the world of entertainment, including a fresh trailer of MCU’s The Marvels and a look at an animated spin-off movie from the Ninja Turtles franchise.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

The iconic Hall H filled with fans on Friday morning for a panel discussion on Paramount Pictures’ upcoming animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

Directed by Jeff Rowe and co-directed by Kyler Spears, the voice cast of the film features Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, Nicolas Cantu, John Cena, Jackie Chan and Ice Cube.

Filmmaker Jeff Rowe was joined by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ creator Kevin Eastman on the panel as the actors gave the event a miss. Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies showed over 20 minutes of new footage for their upcoming animated film.

Paramount also unveiled a new 34-second-long clip titled ‘Sneaking in’ from the film featuring actor Seth Rogan as Bebop.

The Marvels

Marvel Studios dropped a new trailer for their upcoming film The Marvels, providing a glimpse of the thrilling action in store for fans. Director Nia DaCosta was present at the event.

The two-minute-19-second-long trailer revolves around Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), as she reclaims her true self from the oppressive Kree regime and seeks vengeance against the Supreme Intelligence. It also features Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan alongside Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon and Samuel L. Jackson.

The Marvels will hit theatres on November 10.

Max animated series: Young Love, Harley Quinn Season 4 and Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake

HBO’s streaming platform Max unveiled their slate of upcoming animated series at the event. The trailers for three HBO shows were unveiled by the streamers after a panel of showrunners graced the stage on Friday.

Max unveiled the trailer of Young Love on Twitter with the caption, “When you don’t want to hurt your hairstylist’s feelings but you gotta be red-carpet ready before bedtime. Based on the award-winning animated short from Matthew A. Cherry and featuring the voices of Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi and Issa Rae, #YoungLove is coming soon to Max.”

The fourth season of Max’s animated series Harley Quinn, based on the DC character, also got its trailer launch at Comic-Con. Season 4 of Harley Quinn will premiere on July 27 on Max. “Good and evil are about to get all tangled up together,” wrote the streamer, sharing the trailer.

The trailer for the upcoming young adult animated series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, a spin-off to Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, was released by the streamer. “The world should be more ✨ magical ✨ #AdventureTime: #FionnaandCake premieres August 31 on Max,” Max’s Twitter handle wrote alongside the video.

Mother Nature

Jamie Lee Curtis, who won the best supporting actress Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once this year, joined SDCC 2023 as an author to launch her new graphic novel Mother Nature, which she created with co-writer Russell Goldman and artist Karl Stevens.

“Jamie Lee Curtis joined us here at #SDCC2023 to launch her new graphic novel Mother Nature along with co-writer Russell Goldman and artist Karl Stevens,” wrote Comic Con on Twitter.

Kalki 2989 AD

Hall H also hosted the first-ever Indian film Project K, now titled Kalki 2989 AD. Helmed by Nag Ashwin, the upcoming film’s teaser was released at the event in the presence of Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Rana Daggubati.

The one-minute-15-second-long clip features Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Prabhas as warriors in a futuristic world ravaged by dark forces.
