Samantha Ruth Prabhu has chopped off her white wedding gown and repurposed it into a black slit dress featuring floral designs in a nod to sustainable fashion, the actress revealed in an Instagram post on Thursday.

“We cannot ignore sustainability anymore. We’re past that stage when it was a choice. It’s now a necessity for the longevity of our planet that we call home. The dress I am wearing today is a beloved gown that has been repurposed for this occasion,” the actress wrote alongside photos of herself in the refurbished gown.

Samantha explained her decision to repurpose her gown that she had worn during her wedding with Naga Chaitanya in 2017. However, the couple decided to part ways after nearly four years of marriage in October 2021.

“I assure you that repurposing my old clothes is only one of many steps I am consciously taking to alter my habits and make my lifestyle more sustainable. And every little gesture, every little decisive action, is important. It all adds up. I urge myself and all of you that have goodwill for me in your hearts to make those little efforts. Thank you,” wrote the actress, urging her fans to follow in her footsteps.

Samantha also shared a video showing how couturiers turned her white embellished gown into a black ensemble that has knife pleats around the waist and a floor-sweeping trail.

Samantha also shared a set of pictures of herself in the same outfit on her Instagram stories. A crystal choker, nude makeup and shoulder-length bob complemented her ensemble. “There are always new memories to be made. There are always new paths to walk. There are always new stories to tell...Beauty is forever. And it can take on a new form every day,” she captioned the photos.

The 36-year-old was last seen in Shiva Nirvana’s romantic comedy Kushi opposite Vijay Deverakonda. She will star alongside Varun Dhawan in Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian adaptation of Prime Video’s American spy action series featuring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden in lead roles.
