Actress Saiyami Kher has essayed the role of a para-athlete cricket prodigy in R. Balki’s new sports drama film Ghoomer.

The Unpaused actress said even though she grew up playing cricket, the role was quite challenging for her. “I play the role of a left-handed bowler in Ghoomer, although I am a right-handed player in real life. Preparing and filming for Ghoomer was both physically and emotionally challenging,” she explained.

Also starring Abishek Bachchan, Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi in crucial roles, Ghoomer is expected to release later this year. The film is currently in the post-production stage and is co-written by Balki, Rahul Sengupta and Rishi Virmani.

The story of Ghoomer is inspired by Karoly Takacs, the late Hungarian right-hand shooter who won two Olympic gold medals with his left hand after his other hand was seriously injured.

Saiyami, who is an avid cricket fan and still continues to tweet cricket match updates, made her name in Bollywood with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya starring Harshvardhan Kapoor, Om Puri and K.K. Raina.
