Sacred Games actress Elnaaz Nourozi shook the internet with a video of herself stripping off her clothing items as a mark of protest against the Iranian Morality Police.

In the video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the 30-year-old actress strips them off one by one, starting with a hijab, to make a statement on a woman’s right to choose what she will wear. The video, My Body My Choice, has garnered over 1.2 million views so far, and the actress is receiving applause from across the globe for her strong stand against violation of women’s rights.

“Everyone has different views and beliefs and they have to be respected. Democracy means the power to decide… Every Woman should have the power to decide over her own body! 💪🏽💥 I am not promoting nudity, I am promoting freedom of choice!,” the actress wrote on the social media platform.

This video comes less than a month after a 22-year-old Iranian woman, Mahsa Amini, was beaten to death by the police in Tehran. Mahsa was in the custody of Iran’s ‘Morality Police’, a task force established in 2005 with the duty of arresting people violating the Islamic dress code. Mahsa was detained by the Iran Morality Police on grounds of violating the Islamic dress code shortly after which she succumbed to injuries to her skull.

Who is Elnaaz Nourozi

Elnaaz Nourozi is among the thousands of women protesting against the Iranian Morality Police, including Priyanka Chopra who shared a statement on her social media extending her support to Iranian women. The model-turned-actress, who debuted in films with Maan Jao Na in 2017, has been extremely vocal on social media about the death of Mahsa Amini. This isn’t the first time the actress has taken a stand. On September 21, she took to Instagram to talk about the oppression of women in Iran.

The ongoing hijab protest in Iran, following the death of Mahsa Amini, was lauded by the actress who claimed that when the men and women of Iran were standing behind the movement, they did not need worldwide support.

Elnaaz’s screen work includes the 2018 Netflix India original Sacred Games and the Zee5 web series Abhay with Kunal Kemmu. She has also starred in music videos including Guru Randhawa’s Made in India and Tony Kakkar’s Nagin Jaise Kamar Hila.
