Dimple Kapadia’s gun-wielding mother-in-law turns the usual ‘saas-bahu’ drama of Indian television on its head in the teaser of Disney+Hotstar’s upcoming series Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, dropped by the streamer on Wednesday.

The 58-second-long teaser is backed by the title song of the popular daily soap of early 2000s Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. At first, things seem merry in matriarch Dimple Kapadia’s traditional Indian household as she performs aarti and various rituals while the other women of the household play garba.

However, violence and drama erupts as Kapadia pulls a gun at a person and the other women also take part in a bloody fight. The teaser also shows a drug business being run by the family, especially by the women.

“Chetaavani: Yeh kamajor dil vaalon ke liye nahin hai! Kripaya na dekhein. Kyun? Kyunki…. #HotstarSpecials #SaasBahuAurFlamingo,” the official Twitter handle of Disney+ Hotstar wrote alongside the teaser.

“Saas Bahu aur Flamingo revolves around four inimitable women, the matriarch Savitri, her daughters-in-law, Bijli and Kajal, and her daughter Shanta who live in Hastipur – a forgotten village in the north-west. Savitri runs a company named Rani Cooperative, trading in products ranging from jari-booti balms to textiles. But everything here isn’t what it seems. Turns out, this cottage business is just a front for the biggest drug cartel being run in South Asia,” the synopsis reads.

Directed by Homi Adajania — who has helmed films like Being Cyrus, Finding Fanny and Angrezi Medium — Saas Bahu aur Flamingo is bankrolled by Dinesh Vijan under his banner Muddock Films.

Apart from Dimple Kapadia, the series also stars Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar, Isha Talwar, Deepak Dobriyal and Monica Dogra in important roles.

Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo will be streaming on Disney+Hotstar from May 5.
