Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds sang a hilarious birthday song for his friend and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney on Friday, leaving the internet in splits with his humour and wit.
“A birthday card might’ve been easier. Happy Birthday, @robmcelhenney Also… absolutely none of this was possible without the beautiful, heartbreaking and utterly charitable prowess of these two geniuses: @justinpaulmusic and @benjpasek And thank you to the community of @wrexham_afc for keeping this a secret. Also, would be a real shame if this became a regular chant at the Racecourse.” Reynolds wrote on Instagram alongside a video of him explaining how to pronounce McElhenney by singing for his friend.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenney turned 46 on Friday.
In the two-minute-18-second-long video, Ryan finally brought an end to the debate on how to pronounce Rob’s last name with some quick examples of how not to. The video also features McElhenney’s It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia co-stars. It features players, staff and fans of the National League side Wrexham FC, which Ryan and Rob purchased in 2022.
Sung by Reynolds, the song bounces between Irish-American alehouses and Wrexham hostelries. Reynolds also encourages Wrexham fans to take up the chant on match days.
