Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt recently performed a parody version of Taylor Swift’s 2012 song All Too Well on Saturday Night Live (SNL), eliciting a positive reaction from the American singer-songwriter on X.
“All Too Well (Ryan and Emily’s Version)!!! Watch me accidentally catch myself singing this version on tour. This monologue is EVERYTHING,” the Lover singer wrote alongside the video shared on the microblogging site.
The parody was part of Gosling’s monologue with which he entertained audiences with his hilarious lamentation of moving on from his role of Ken in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 film Barbie. “Just letting go feels like a breakup,” he says in the video, adding that there is nothing better than a Taylor Swift song that can help one to cope with the pain of a break up.
Gosling sported a black glittery blazer over a white t-shirt during the performance. He put his black shades on and began singing Swift’s All Too Well with a twist. His lyrics humorously lamented how he is unable to move on from the beauty of the Venice Beach where he played volleyball with other Kens in the movie, the comfort of spandex and leaving behind his rollerblades. Recalling the comfort of his fur coat, he put it on and crooned the song before Blunt entered the stage to reminisce about her Oppenheimer character Kitty.
We get to see a comedic moment of the duo casually insulting each other’s 2023 films — Barbie and Oppenheimer — bringing back the Barbenheimer tussle experienced by fans during the end of July last year. While Gosling called Blunt’s Oppenheimer “inferior”, the latter attacked him by saying that her movie team made history by winning all the prestigious awards.
However, at the end, Blunt helps Gosling to bid farewell to their characters, Kitty and Ken. “Now it’s time to wish Ken and Kitty, both of us farewell,” they said together, concluding the video.
Gosling and Blunt are set to appear in the action-thriller The Fall Guy. While Gosling plays a stuntman, Blunt plays his ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno in the film, slated to release in theatres on May 3.
