Naatu Naatu song from RRR bagged an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards

Congratulatory messages poured in following RRR song Naatu Naatu’s Oscar win on Monday with members of the Indian film fraternity calling it a historic moment for Indian cinema.

Naatu Naatu from the S.S. Rajamouli-directed period drama won the Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards, becoming the first-ever original song from an Indian production to win the Oscar trophy.

Composed by M.M. Keeravani and sung by Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, the foot-tapping Telugu number was also performed on the 95th Oscars’ stage.

Telugu star Chiranjeevi, whose son Ram Charan is one of the leads in the film, was one of the first celebrities to congratulate the RRR team on the win. “Oscars would have still been a dream for India but for one man’s vision, courage & conviction. @ssrajamouli A Billion 🇮🇳 Hearts filled with Pride & Gratitude,” he tweeted.

“Cinema speaks a universal language,” Bholaa actor Ajay Devgn tweeted, congratulating the teams of RRR and The Elephant Whisperers for their Oscar victories.

Actor Hrithik Roshan described the Oscar victory of RRR and The Elephant Whisperers as “historic, proud & happy moment for Indian Cinema”.

Mohan Babu congratulated “incredibly talented duo, Keeravani and Rajamouli, on their historic Oscar win.”

“Naatu Naatu has truly left a lasting impact on audiences and will be remembered for years to come,” actor Ravi Teja posted on Twtter.

Rana Daggubati, who worked with Rajamouli in Baahubali movies, also expressed his excitement on Twitter. “The road of RRR,” he wrote.

Director Ram Gopal Varma congratulated the “killer team of RRR”. He singled out M.M. Keeravani, who has collaborated with the director in the past, in extending his wishes. “You’ve OSCARRRED it,” Varma tweeted.

Tollywood actor Jeet congratulated S.S. Rajamouli and RRR team for their “phenomenal” win.

Telugu actor Sharwanand was “out of words” after Naatu Naatu bagged an Oscar.

Actor Kalyanram Nandamuri described RRR’s win as a “monumental moment in Indian cinema”.

Actress Deepika Padukone introduced the performance of the song during the Oscars ceremony. In her short speech, she called it “absolute banger” with “catchy chorus, electrifying beats and killer dance moves.”
