Northern Irish actor Ray Stevenson, who played the British Governor Scott Buxton in S.S. Rajamouli’s Oscar-winning film RRR, died at the age of 58 on Monday.
Rajamouli penned an emotional note on Twitter on Tuesday morning to condole the actor’s demise. “Shocking... Just can't believe this news. Ray brought in so much energy and vibrancy with him to the sets. It was infectious. Working with him was pure joy. My prayers are with his family. May his soul rest in peace.”
The official Twitter handle of RRR also shared an image from the epic action drama. “What shocking news for all of us on the team! 💔 Rest in peace, Ray Stevenson. You will stay in our hearts forever, SIR SCOTT,” the tweet read.
The actor played an Asgardian warrior in Marvel Studios’ Thor films. He portrayed the character of Volstagg. Marvel Studios shared a note remembering the actor on Instagram.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ray Stevenson, who brought humor and wit to the character of Volstagg. He was a wonderful actor who will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones,” the note read.
Ray Stevenson made his film debut in 1998’s British comedy-drama The Theory of Flight following his television debut in 1993’s A Woman's Guide to Adultery. He then went on to star in Antoine Fuqua’s King Arthur (2004), Lexi Alexander’s Punisher: War Zone (2008), the Hughes Brothers’ The Book of Eli (2010) and Adam McKay’s The Other Guys (2010).
On the small screen, he worked in Waking the Dead, Dexter, Star Wars Rebels, Vikings, Medici, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and HBO’s Rome. His last onscreen appearance will be Star Wars’ spin-off series Ahsoka.
