Instead of drawing gasps from spectators with his delicate drop shots, ferocious forehands and biting backhands at the All England Club this year, Roger Federer rocked the stage with British Band Coldplay in Zurich, Switzerland, on July 3.

The 20-time grand slam champion, who retired from the game last year, joined the band’s lead vocalist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bass guitarist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion for a song performance.

In a video posted by Coldplay on Instagram on Monday, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is seen welcoming the 41-year-old former player with a made-up story about his history with the band. He introduced the Tennis maestro as “an original band member who left the band and became the greatest Tennis player of all time”.

The band then launched into Don’t Panic from their album Parachutes with Federer playing the shaker. At one point during the song, Martin asked the rest of the band to go quiet and urged Federer to continue with his shaker solo, making the crowd go crazy with excitement.

“Is there anything this man can’t do? Thank you for coming back to us @rogerfederer 🩵💫,” Coldplay captioned the video.

Federer, too, dropped photos from the performance and a short video clip of his shaker solo on Twitter, calling the experience the “adventure of a lifetime”. He also posted photos with his wife, Mirka, and the band members off-stage.

Considered the greatest Tennis player of all time, the sight of Federer at the Coldplay concert filled his fans with elation at a time Wimbledon 2023 is in progress at the All England Club in London. Federer holds the record of winning the prestigious tennis tournament for a record eight times.
