Filmmaker Karan Johar’s directorial comeback Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (RRKPK), starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, emerged as the fifth highest opener among Hindi films in 2023, minting around Rs 12 crore nett on Day 1 in theatres, trade reports highlighted on Saturday.

The romantic drama that hit theatres on Friday fell short of the Day 1 collection of Prabhas-starrer Adipurush (Rs 86 crore nett), Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (Rs 57 crore nett), Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (Rs 15.81 crore nett) and Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (Rs 15.73 crore).

RRKPK faces stiff competition at the box office from last week’s much-anticipated Hollywood releases — Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Alongside Alia and Ranveer, RRKPK also features Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Churni Ganguly and Tota Roy Choudhury in significant roles.
