Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starrer Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani had a rocking first week at the domestic box office, raking in Rs 73.42 crore nett since its release on July 28. The romantic comedy helmed by Karan Johar has grossed Rs 138 crore worldwide, as per Box Office India reports.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani opened with Rs 11.1 crore nett and added another Rs 34.8 crore nett to its collection over the weekend. The film remained steady at the box office through the week, minting Rs 7.02 crore nett on its first Monday, followed by Rs 7.3 crore nett on Tuesday and Rs 6.9 crore nett on Wednesday. It ended its first week of theatrical run with a collection of Rs 6.3 crore nett on Thursday.
The Karan Johar directorial emerged as the sixth-highest Week 1 grosser among Hindi films released in 2023. Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan occupied the top position with a collection of Rs 315 crore nett, while Prabhas-starrer Adipurush (Rs 260 crore nett) came second, followed by Ranbir Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar at Rs 92 crore, Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan at Rs 90 crore and Adah Sharma’s The Kerala Story with a collection of Rs 81 crore.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani revolves around a flamboyant Punjabi munda, Rocky (Ranveer), who falls in love with Bengali journalist Rani (Alia). They decide to switch homes and move in with their prospective in-laws in order to win their consent for marriage. How they overcome their cultural differences forms the rest of the plot.
The film also features Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Churni Ganguly and Tota Roy Choudhury in pivotal roles.
