Actor Riteish Deshmukh’s directorial debut Ved is having a dream run at the box office, raking in Rs 5.7 crore on the second Sunday (January 8) after its release. This is reportedly the highest-ever single-day collection for a Marathi film.
Previously, Nagraj Manjule’s 2016 romantic tragedy Sairat had held the record of the highest single-day earnings (Rs 4.61 crore).
The romantic drama headlined by Deshmukh and his wife, Genelia Deshmukh, has already grossed Rs 35.77 crore at the box office, according to trade reports. It has reported a total collection of Rs 12.75 crore on its second weekend, which is higher than the first weekend’s earnings (Rs 10 crore).
Riteish took to Instagram to express his happiness on the occasion. “To hit the highest single day collection ever for a Marathi film on the 10th day feels like a dream. We thank the audience from the bottom of our hearts for showering so much love on Ved,” the actor wrote.
Ved, which translates to madness, revolves around Satya (Riteish) and Shravani (Genelia). Though Shravani is secretly in love with him since their school days, Satya loves another girl (Jia Shankar) whose parents separate the couple. Desperate and depressed, Satya, once a promising cricketer, turns to the bottle and marries Shravani without really caring for her. How Satya eventually gets to realise Shrvani’s love for him forms the main plot of this drama.
