Months after portraying a plus-sized model in her last film Fatafati, actress Ritabhari Chakraborty has taken up the new challenge of playing a pregnant woman in her first-ever web series — Nandini.

Directed by Falak Mir and produced by Surinder Films, Nandini is a mystery drama that follows a pregnant woman, Snigdha, whose world turns upside down when her doctor tells her to abort the baby who would be stillborn otherwise. At midnight, when everyone is asleep, Snighda’s telephone rings and a child’s voice tells her “Mother! I am not dead, I am still alive!” What happens next forms the crux of the story.

Ritabhari dropped a poster of the nine-episode upcoming series on Friday, flaunting her character’s baby bump. She said every mother will relate to Nandini, which is a screen adaptation of Sayantani Putatunda’s eponymous novel. “It has been a very challenging role for me. I tried to learn, understand, absorb and portray and perform and live with that. I just hope I did justice to the role.”

Falak Mir explained why he thought Ritabhari would be the best choice to play the main protagonist. “When we were discussing the cast, the first name that came to my mind was Ritabhari. She is very passionate and dedicated towards her work. During the shoot she would follow every minute details given by me and execute them accordingly.”

Apart from Ritabhari, Kinjal Nanda, Debjani Chatterjee, Sandip Bhattacharya, Suhotra Mukhopadhyay, Sweta Bhattacharya and Alivia Sarkar play key roles in the series. Nandini will be streaming on Addatimes from October 15.
