Global pop icon Rihanna has become the only artiste to sell over 1 million album units in the US in 2024 without releasing a new album in the 2020s, music data-tracking account Chart Data announced on X on Wednesday, prompting a reaction from the Barbadian singer.

Reacting to the impressive statistics, Rihanna showcased her trademark humour. The 36-year-old singer posted a GIF of her smirking and pulling her ponytail, followed by a broad smile.

Rihanna's last studio album Anti released in 2016. Since then, she has released several singles, including the Oscar-nominated song Lift Me Up from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

Rihanna is currently working on her highly anticipated ninth studio album, R9.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna made a playful reference to her upcoming album R9 during her Fenty Hair launch party earlier this week. “Music for me is a new discovery, I'm rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I just kind of put all that stuff aside. And now, I'm prepared to go back in the studio. Now I'm prepared, so I'm gonna start,” ET quoted Rihanna.
