Actor-couple Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal's production debut Girls Will Be Girls, directed by Shuchi Talati, is set to hit Prime Video on December 18, the streaming platform announced on Wednesday.
“Witness the coming-of-age story with a touch of rebellion & desire,” the streamer wrote, sharing a poster of the film on Instagram.
Set against the backdrop of the 1990s Dehradun, Girls Will Be Girls follows the rebellious awakening of 18-year-old Mira (Preeti Panigrahi), who feels throttled by her young mother Anila (Kani Kusruti), who herself never had the opportunity to experience a normal adolescent life.
The film bagged the Audience Award for World Cinema Dramatic Competition at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Its lead actor Preeti Panigrahi won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting at the festival, held in January. The film was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May.
Girls Will Be Girls also won the Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) in June. Additionally, the film was screened at the 15th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) on August 25.
The film was selected for the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024, where it competed in the South Asia Competition section in October 2024. Girls Will Be Girls was also nominated for the Gotham awards in the breakthrough director category.
While the film was released in France in August this year, it hit screens in the UK and Ireland on September 20, 2024.
