Recently reunited American nu-metal band Linkin Park on Tuesday dropped the music video of their new single Heavy Is The Crown for this year’s League of Legends World Championship, an annual video game tournament.

Heavy Is The Crown is the band’s second track since their recent reunion with new vocalist Emily Armstrong seven years after the death of frontman Chester Bennington. Their first comeback song, The Emptiness Machine, was released on September 6, a day after they reunited on stage for a performance in Los Angeles.

Released ahead of the championship event on September 25, the three-minute-45-second-long music video features Linkin Park members Mike Shinoda, Emily Armstrong, Dave Farrell and Brad Delson as characters from the game. It also features players from esports teams T1, G2, Flyquest, Red Canids, BLG, and GenG competing for the championship crown.

Armstrong, who was previously the lead singer for Dead Sara, pays tribute to Chester and the heydays of Linkin Park in the song. “This is what you asked for, heavy is the crown/ Fire in the sunrise, ashes rainin’ down,” she roars. The lyrics “Try to hold it in, but it keeps bleeding out” is a homage to the band’s 2007 song Bleed it Out.

The music video pays tribute to Lee Sang-hyeok a.k.a Faker, a South Korean gamer who is popular as one of the greatest esports players of all time with multiple championship wins. Faker, a five-time League of Legends World Champion, is visualised as a newly crowned king in the video as he faces off against a legion of aspiring rulers. In a dramatic finale, he bursts through massive double doors and leaps at rival team members to seize the title.

“The 2024 Worlds Music Video envisions renowned League of Legends pro player Lee 'Faker' Sang-hyeok as a newly crowned king as he battles a legion of aspiring rulers who arrive on his doorstep,” Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends, said in a statement. “Through the story of a warrior fighting to protect a kingdom under siege, the video honours Faker and T1’s victory at Worlds 2023 while embodying the powerful spirit of League players. It also celebrates the rich history of kingdoms and dynasties in London, where the Worlds Finals will take place on November 2, 2024.”

Heavy Is The Crown is the band’s first collaboration with Riot Games. Recently, Linkin Park has added three more shows to their ongoing From Zero World Tour. Their first comeback track The Emptiness Machine went from No. 24 to No. 1 in its second week on Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart and also shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Hard Rock Songs chart recently.
