Reese Witherspoon is set to reprise her iconic role of Elle Woods from the 2001 movie Legally Blonde in Prime Video’s Elle, a prequel series that will trace the character’s high school years, Amazon MGM Studios announced on Tuesday.
Elle is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video next year.
“Go back in time to meet the young Elle Woods. New Series coming to Prime Video,” Amazon MGM Studios wrote alongside a video featuring Witherspoon, who makes an appearance onstage during the company’s presentation of upcoming content to advertisers on the same day.
In the video, Witherspoon sports a pink knit sweater top paired with a matching mini skirt and keeps her blonde wavy tresses open. While she walks from her trailer to the stage, a dialogue exchange between her and Luke Wilson’s Emmett on her first day at Harvard plays in the background.
Another picture shared by the company on Instagram shows Witherspoon in character, walking her chihuahua dog Bruiser Woods on the stage and waves to the audience.
Witherspoon also took to her Instagram handle and shared behind-the-scenes footage from her day at the event. “Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ‘90s high school girl. And all of you are going to get to know her next year on @primevideo. I’M SO EXCITED,” she wrote alongside the video.
Legally Blonde revolves around Elle Woods, a blonde sorority queen, who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School but soon realises how she does not fit in with her peers. Eventually, she discovers her own potential and becomes a successful lawyer, all the while maintaining her unique personality and style.
Witherspoon is next going to star in the comedy feature You’re Cordially Invited alongside Will Ferrell. Directed by Nicholas Stoller, the film is slated to premiere on Prime Video on January 30, 2025.
