Set in Malegaon, a small town in Maharashtra, Superboys of Malegaon draws inspiration from true events. It delves into the life of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from Malegaon who enlists his friends to create a film by the people of Malegaon for the people of Malegaon, bringing a wave of energy and hope to the town.

Superboys of Malegaon features Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh and Shashank Arora. Produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby, the film is written by Varun Grover.

Reacting to the selection of their film for the festival, production house Excel Entertainment posted on X: “Get on the cinematic ride with the Superboys Of Malegaon Our film flies to the prestigious @tiff_net ”.

Apart from Superboys of Malegaon, TIFF is introducing four more World Premiere titles from its Gala programme this year and its Special Presentation programme. Here’s a look.

  • Eden (US), a survival thriller directed by Ron Howard and starring Jude Law, Ana de Armas, and Sydney Sweeney
  • K-POPS (USA), a dramatic comedy inspired by eight-time Grammy Award winner Anderson .Paak’s life
  • Shepherds (Canada/France), an adaptation of the Canadian novel D’où viens tu, berger? about a young advertising executive who becomes a shepherd in France
  • We Live in Time (UK/France), a romance starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield about a couple whose chance meeting changes their lives.

TIFF chief programming officer Anita Lee recently expressed her excitement about the films about to have their world premiere at the festival. “I’m thrilled to share today’s list of World Premiere films, featuring stories from around the world that highlight the scope and breadth of TIFF’s programming. I can’t wait for TIFF audiences to take these journeys on the big screen and be transported by cinema together this September,” she said.
