Red Chillies Entertainment celebrates 26 years of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dil Se

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the romantic thriller marked Preity Zinta’s Bollywood debut

Shah Rukh Khan’s production company Red Chillies Entertainment marked 26 years of the actor’s 1998 romantic thriller Dil Se.. on Wednesday by sharing a video featuring moments from the Mani Ratnam directorial that also starred Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta.

“A saga of love, beauty, & emotions that we’ll always love ‘Dil Se’ Celebrating 26 years of #DilSe,” wrote the production house on Instagram.

The video also provides a glimpse of Shah Rukh and Malaika Arora dancing on top of a moving train to the beats of the chartbuster Chaiyya Chaiyya. The song was choreographed by Farah Khan Kunder with music composed by A.R. Rahman, lyrics by Gulzar and vocals by Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi.

Netizens flooded the post with comments requesting a re-release of the film. “Re-release ASAP,” wrote a social media user, while another asked, “Will you ever re-release Dil se?”

Dil Se.. follows radio journalist Amarkant Verma (Shah Rukh), who falls in love with a mysterious woman, Meghna, alias Moina (Manisha). However, she keeps eluding him, leading him to uncover her secret mission and traumatic past. Preity plays Preeti Verma, whose marriage to Amarkant is arranged by their families.

Released theatrically on August 21, 1998, the film garnered Rs 14.90 crore nett at the domestic box-office, according to industry data-tracking site Sacnilk. At the 46th National Film Awards that year, Dil Se.. bagged two trophies — best cinematography and best audiography.

Dil Se.. is currently available for streaming on Netflix.

On the work front, Manisha Koirala last appeared as Mallika Jaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s maiden web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, set in pre-independence Lahore.

Shah Rukh will next appear in Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming film King, which is also expected to feature his daughter Suhana Khan. Abhishek Bachchan is likely to play the role of an antagonist in the film.

Preity has Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947 in the pipeline.
