Mission Impossible actress Rebecca Ferguson is set to star alongside Cillian Murphy in Netflix’s upcoming Peaky Blinders film, the streamer announced on Thursday.
“NEWS: Rebecca Ferguson will join Cillian Murphy in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film,” Netflix UK & Ireland wrote alongside a picture of Ferguson.
Ferguson last starred in Dune: Part Two as Lady Jessica alongside Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, Zendaya and Florence Pugh. The Swedish actress also has Timur Bekmambetov’s upcoming sci-fi film Mercy in the pipeline.
Last month, Netflix had announced the film with Murphy reprising his role as Tommy Shelby. “Tommy Shelby returns. A PEAKY BLINDERS FILM starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix,” the streaming platform had written alongside a picture showing the script of the upcoming film.
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” Murphy said in a statement, adding, “It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
Peaky Blinders follows the rise of the Shelby family’s criminal empire, led by the cunning and ambitious Tommy, in post-World War I Birmingham. The series explores their cahooting up with rival gangs, their tie-ups with the government as well as their international interests.
Tom Harper, who directed all the episodes in the show’s first season in 2013, will helm the new film from a script by Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight.
The Peaky Blinders film will start production later this year. It will be a sequel to the six-season gangster drama series. The plot details of the upcoming film have been kept under wraps.
