With two albums already out there, Prabh Deep is set to release his upcoming album, post-lockdown. To help promote it, the Delhi-based rapper dropped his single Chitta, which speaks about a person who is on his path to set things right. Although the 23-year-old has decided to keep the name of his album a secret, he is confident that it is different from his previous releases. We chat with the Amar artiste.

Tell us about what to expect from the album and how it was conceived?

I don’t want to reveal the name right now but the concept is basically having multiple personalities… something which we all experience. You grow up, move from high school to college and our personality also does the same. Then you graduate and it brings about another change. The album is about how multiple personalities in a person’s life continue to remain connected with an inner child.

The album will “deal with human psyche and create an overarching story about the conflict between good and evil that each one of us experience”. Where do these strong thoughts stem from?

I think it’s been a whole year before my EP K I N G. released. I made a few songs during difficult times in my life, trying to control some emotions. I was in a very dark place while making this album and it helped me get closer to who I am today.

Tell us the story about Chitta, the first track from the upcoming album.

This is an old song that I came up with in 2018 and I recreated the beat and everything. Basically I refurbished it! It was the start of a new chapter when I started writing in the guise of fictional characters. But they are not as fictional as it sounds. These are characters who can be found in neighbourhoods… like mine. I capture their experiences, their journey.

What made you decide that Chitta should be the first track to release?

More than bringing out the colour of the album, I would say it shows an aspect of it (the album). When the whole album comes out everyone would be surprised, like, “What the f**k just happened?” The song is a very small part of it (album), then you listen to the whole album and then you connect all the dots. For those people who don’t know my music, for them this will be a hype track but fans who know my projects, they would see it as being a part of something bigger.

What’s the message on the album?

Look inwards rather than seeing who you are on the outside. Everything, all the answers are inside you. I’ve been through some crazy mental experiences that I have found answers to all by myself. I think it’s about finding your own self because everyone’s truth is different.

Do you think releasing the album now will give listeners a better understanding of your work?

No, no, it’s the other way around. I’m not releasing it during lockdown for sure. Because I want people to get back to what they do and then listen to it. I want them to feel it to the core. And right now everyone is in a very different zone. To release one single is cool but this is a very heavy album. Sometimes I have to stop and then go back and start listening to it again. So if it’s getting heavy for the person who made it, I think it would be heavy for listeners as well (laughs).
