Ranveer Singh was helped by his Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani co-star Tota Roy Chowdhury during the former’s emotional scene involving a passionate speech in the Karan Johar directorial, the actor revealed during a media event in Mumbai on Thursday.
“I am very thankful to Tota sir for laying the fertile soil for that emotion to end where it did when we embraced each other. When Tota sir was telling his story to Rocky, I was in tears,” said the 83 actor, thanking Tota for his support during such a delicate scene.
Ranveer, who plays Rocky Randhawa in the film, also discussed how the emotional scene kept a delicate balance between humour and emotion. “I think that’s a special scene because it doesn’t happen often that you start laughing while crying and vice versa. But all credit to the writers, to Karan, to Tota sir — I have been reading all the heartfelt reactions to that scene. There’s a fine line between humour and emotion,” he added.
Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Tota, Churni Ganguly, Kshitee Jog, Anjali Anand and Karan Johar also attended the event, which was held to celebrate the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Asked about the most celebrated dialogue from the film — Love Hai Toh Sab Hai — which caught the imagination of the audience, Ranveer said, “If there was ever a true and authentic line in this movie or something that I could share from whatever I have learned from life, then it is this. Love is the most special and most magical thing that exists in our lives. It’s not just with your romantic partner, it’s with your family and friends too. If you have love, you’ll figure out everything else.”
Alia Bhatt, who plays Rani Chatterjee in the film, echoed the words of her Gully Boy co-star. “I agree with it. If you have love within yourself, you’ll be happy and you’ll share that love and happiness with others. If you are surrounded by loving relationships, then everyone will be happy. That’s why this line is very apt and it came up impromptu from Ranveer while we were doing a scene,” she said.
Ranveer said the dialogue was his addition to the scene, joking that Karan Johar didn’t give him credit for it. “Love Hai Toh Sab Hai and I live by that,” he added.
Released in theatres on July 28, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also stars Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan and Aamir Bashir.
