Actor Ranveer Singh found it “trippy” to see his wife Deepika Padukone, who is expecting a child soon, play the role of a pregnant woman in Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, he said in a video shared by the actress on Tuesday.
“It’s really trippy to see a movie where her character is pregnant and she is pregnant...what’s happening,” Ranveer says in the video.
Deepika and Ranveer, who tied the knot on 14 November 2018, announced in March this year that they were expecting their first child in September. The announcement came shortly after the Pathaan actress attended BAFTA 2024 as a presenter.
The video shared by Deepika on Tuesday also captures the reactions of the audience after a screening of the film. “Amazing,” says one viewer, while another comments, “Fully involved in the cinematic universe.”
Fans also express their eagerness for the sequel to the Prabhas-starrer sci-fi epic. In the video, Deepika says that she is overwhelmed with the audience’s reaction.
“What was your favourite part? Comment Below. Have you watched it yet,” reads the caption to Deepika’s post.
Released theatrically on June 27, Kalki 2898 AD features Deepika as Sum-80 (aka Sumati), the chosen one who is pregnant with Kalki — the final avatar of Vishnu, according to mythology. Kalki will purge the world of evil and lift the curse of immortality off Dronacharya’s son Ashwatthama, played by Amitabh Bachchan in the film. Prabhas plays a streetsmart bounty hunter named Bhairava.
Kalki 2898 AD also stars Kamal Haasan, Tollywood actor Saswata Chatterjee and Disha Patani, with noteworthy cameos from Dulquer Salmaan, SS Rajamouli, Mrunal Thakur, Vijay Deverakonda and Ram Gopal Varma. The film has already minted Rs 529.45 Cr nett at the domestic box office, according to industry data-tracking site Sacnilk.
Deepika was last seen in Siddharth Anand's aerial actioner Fighter opposite Hrithik Roshan. Her other upcoming projects include Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again and Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3. Meanwhile, Ranveer is set to reprise his role as ACP Sangram ‘Simmba’ Bhalerao in Singham Again.
