Ranbir Kapoor’s first film Saawariya and Deepika Padukone’s Bollywood debut Om Shanti Om completed 17 years on Saturday, prompting the makers to share iconic moments from the two movies.

Taking to Instagram, Bhansali Productions dropped a video showcasing moments shared by Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor’s characters on screen. “In the stillness of the night, under the moonlight, two hearts met, drawn by the magic of dreams and the hope of love. Celebrating #17YearsOfSaawariya,” they wrote alongside the video set to Shail Hada’s title track and Rani Mukherji’s voiceover.

“A tale of love, heartbreak and redemption” is how Red Chillies Entertainment described Om Shanti Om in a video carrying iconic scenes of Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Arjun Rampal. “A movie so iconic, we’re never getting over its ajab si adaayein! #17YearsOfOmShantiOm,” the production house captioned the video.

Directed by Farah Khan, Om Shanti Om follows Om (Shah Rukh), a junior film artist in 1970s Bollywood, who falls in love with a successful actress Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone). After he discovers that she is trapped in an abusive marriage with a producer, Om tries to save her but dies doing so. Decades later, Om is reincarnated as a successful actor with memories of his past life. He sets out to expose the producer and seek justice for Shanti’s murder.

Saawariya, on the other hand, was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and was adapted from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s 1948 short story White Nights. It follows the story of Raj (Ranbir), a carefree and dreamy musician, who falls in love with Sakina (Sonam), a mysterious woman whom he meets in a quaint town. However, despite their growing bond, Sakina longs for her estranged lover Imaan (Salman Khan) who promised to return to her. As their love intensifies, Raj struggles between winning her heart and supporting her relentless hope for Imaan’s return.

The music for Saawariya was directed by Bhansali, Monty Sharma and Sameer Anjaan. Co-produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, it is the first Bollywood film to be released in North American theatres by a Hollywood studio.
