Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal beats Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, emerges as second-highest grossing Hindi film of 2023

Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal has emerged as the second-highest grossing Hindi film of 2023 in India, crossing the lifetime collection of Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 by raking in Rs 528.69 crore nett at the domestic box office in just 20 days since its release, highlight latest trade reports.

The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial finds a spot above Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan (Rs 524.53 crore) on the list of highest grossing Hindi films of the year. Atlee’s Jawan, also starring Shah Rukh, holds the top spot with a collection of Rs 643.87 crore nett. The lifetime collection of Gadar 2 stands at Rs 524.80 crore nett.

Animal, also starring Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in important roles, had a phenomenal start, accumulating Rs 337.58 crore nett in its first week. In the second week, it continued its impressive performance, amassing Rs 139.26 crore nett. The movie's success story continued during the third weekend as it added another Rs 35.18 crore nett to its collection.

The Ranbir-starrer witnessed a significant drop in collections on its third Monday and Tuesday, earning Rs 5.75 crore nett and Rs 5.5 crore nett, respectively, on Day 18 and Day 19. Animal managed to earn Rs 5 crore nett on Day 20, taking the total collection of the film to Rs 528.69 crore nett so far.

Animal has also emerged as the highest-grossing film of Ranbir’s career. The record was earlier held by Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju (2018), with a lifetime collection of Rs 338 crore nett in India.

Animal revolves around Ranvijay (Ranbir), the son of a wealthy businessman, who is determined to go to any lengths to earn his father’s (Anil Kapoor) love and respect.
