Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, is off to a good start with domestic collections of Rs 15.72 crore nett on its opening day, according to trade reports.
The movie emerged as the second-highest opening-day grosser of 2023 after Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone-starrer Pathaan (Rs 57 crore nett), beating the opening day collections of Kartik Aaryan's Shehzada (Rs 2.92 crore nett) and Akshay Kumar, Emraan Hashmi-starrer Selfiee (Rs 1.30 crore nett).
The Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer enjoyed an overall occupancy of 22.42 per cent on Wednesday. It performed very well in NCR and Gujarat-Saurashtra regions owing to the holiday due to Holi. However, the film did not fare well in Maharashtra on Wednesday since it was a working day in that part of the country, reports Box Office India.
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’s collections are expected to rise over the weekend owing to positive word-of-mouth reviews from the audience.
Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor have paired up for the first time on the big screen in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar. It also marks Ranbir’s return to the romcom genre after almost a decade. The foot-tapping music of the film, composed by Pritam, has also found support from the audience.
