RRR actors Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam, Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Shaunak Sen and Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani are among the 398 artistes and executives invited to join the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2023.
While Karan Johar has also been included in the list of invitees in the producers category, Naatu Naatu lyricist Chandrabose and RRR cinematographer KK Senthil Kumar have received invitations to join the Academy in the cinematographer category.
"The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines, and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide," said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang.
Membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is granted based on “professional qualifications, as well as a commitment to representation, inclusion, and equity,” the Academy said in a statement on Wednesday.
Among this year's invitees, some of the notable figures are Austin Butler (Elvis), Keke Palmer (Nope) and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once) in the Actors branch; Alexandra Montag (Tár) and Rachel G. Tenner (Spirited) in the Casting Directors branch; James Friend (All Quiet on the Western Front) in the Cinematographers branch; Bob Buck (Avatar: The Way of Water) and Linda Muir (The Northman) in the Costume Designers branch; Carlos López Estrada (Raya and the Last Dragon), Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and Maria Schrader (She Said) in the Directors branch.
Additionally, Sarah Broshar (The Fabelmans) and Paul Rogers (Everything Everywhere All at Once) have been invited to the Film Editors branch; Annemarie Bradley (The Whale) and Kimberly Felix (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) to the Makeup Artists and Hairstylists branch; Taylor Swift (Where the Crawdads Sing) and Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd (Avatar: Way of Water), to the Music branch.
Andrew Goldman (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On) and Philippe Bober (Triangle of Sadness) have received invitations to join the Producers branch.
