Rakul Preet Singh-starrer Chhatriwali is a “family entertainer” even though it revolves around the taboo subject of sex education, the film’s director Tejas Deoskar has said.

“We are here to entertain. Although the film is about sex being a taboo subject, the film is predominantly humorous and entertaining,” said Deoskar.

“When the first cut of the film was ready. I showed it to my parents. And they were proud that we took up this subject. Anyone above the age of 12 years can sit with others in the family as old as an 80-year-old and watch this film and enjoy it without feeling embarrassed,” he added.

Rakul, who plays the role of a sex educator in the film, said, “If we can talk about physical, mental, and emotional health, then why can’t we talk about sexual health? That’s why the line ‘Optional nahin compulsory hai’. The thought is that it should not be considered a bold topic.”

Sumeet Vyas, who plays the lead opposite Rakul in Chhatriwali, said, “What I liked about this film was how clean the script was. A sensitive topic is dealt with in a fun, humorous way. It’s a subject that can possibly make people uncomfortable. But to be able to deliver a film without making them uncomfortable is hard.”

Chhatriwali also stars Satish Kaushik, Prachee Shah, Dolly Ahluwalia and Riva Arora among others. The film, produced by Ronnie Screwvala, will be streaming on ZEE5 from January 20.
