Actress Rakul Preet Singh, who plays a sex educator in the upcoming film Chhatriwali, says she immediately connected with the script of the film and wanted to do it because it had an important message for the youngsters.

"You know sometimes you have certain beliefs but it comes to you in the form of a script. It makes you think, ‘Yes, I think I should do something which will help people’,” she said.

“Nobody has ever spoken about the effects of it on women's health, like it’s always talking about abortion, miscarriages but can any of us tell how many abortions can a woman's body take and what are the ill effects and how does it traumatise women mentally, emotionally, physically? And these are the conversations we need to have for society to hope and to move forward,” she added.

Chhatriwali, also starring Sumeet Vyas, is all set to release on January 20 on ZEE5. Directed by Tejas Deoskar, the film also stars Satish Kaushik, Prachee Shah, Dolly Ahluwalia and Riva Arora.

"I just felt that this was something that I really connected with and hence the film. The thought is that it should not be considered as a bold topic,” Rakul concluded.
