Actress Rajshri Deshpande bagged the best actress trophy for her performance in the Netflix series Trial by Fire, while Vijay Varma won the best actor award for his role in Amazon Prime Video series Dahaad during the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2023, held in Singapore on December 7.

Rajshri plays a grieving mother seeking justice for her children in Trial by Fire. Vijay, on the other hand, had deftly swept the audience off their feet with his portrayal of a serial killer in the series Dahaad.

Pratik Shah bagged the best cinematography award for the Amazon Prime Video Series Jubilee.

At the ceremony, which pays an annual tribute to excellence in the television and film industry across 16 nations in the Asia-Pacific Region, India tied with Japan and Singapore, winning seven awards.

“It’s always amazing when you win an award but this time it was more special because your win is your country’s win,” Vijay wrote on Instagram.

“I was nominated alongside 10 other acting talents across Asia-Pacific and it was quite a Power packed room.. happy to say to my countrymen...we are the best in Asia-Pacific, baby,” he added.

Rajshri expressed her gratitude to her country and the villages she grew up in. Acknowledging her humble background, the 41-year-old actress emphasised the importance of having dreams.

“I was representing dreams of millions like me who never ever thought that they could dream and even they have one, don’t know how to fulfil,” she wrote on Instagram.

The comedy series TVF Pitchers claimed the title of Best Editing, while Modern Love Chennai’s Memory is but a bird episode, available on Amazon Prime Video, won for Best Single Drama/Telemovie/Anthology episode.
