Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer has breached the Rs 500-crore mark at the global box office, surpassing the Mani Ratnam-directed blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan: Part I’s lifetime collection of Rs 498 crore, trade reports highlighted on Monday.
Jailer has now become the second Rajinikanth film to join the Rs 500 crore club after Shankar’s 2018 blockbuster 2.0, which earned Rs 783 crore at the global box office. Jailer is also the second-fastest Tamil film to cross the Rs 500-crore milestone globally. Jailer achieved the feat in just 10 days, falling short by 3 days in beating 2.0’s record of seven days.
Jailer collected approximately Rs 470 crore worldwide in its extended first week of theatrical run, followed by Rs 17.22 crore on second Friday, Rs 26.86 crore on second Saturday and Rs 29.71 crore on second Sunday. The film's global box office earnings have now reached Rs 543.96 crore, according to trade reports.
The ensemble cast of the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial also includes Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Yogi Babu and Vasanth Ravi. Additionally, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff play cameos in the action thriller.
