An original web series on the Klikk OTT platform, Inspector Nalinikanta 2 is a cop thriller in which Rajatava Dutta reprises his role as police detective Nalinikanta Kundu, portrayed by him earlier in Inspector Nalinikanta (2022). Inspector Nalinikanta 2’s trailer, which dropped recently, has garnered considerable attention from Bengali web series fans and promises to be an exciting whodunit, though with a very different plotline from its predecessor.
As given away by the trailer, the series, directed this time by Soumik Chattopadhyaya as well, is about an investigation into the murder of a young business tycoon and aspiring political leader Supriya Mukherjee. Under the radar of the police in Calcutta because of a shocking discovery in his farmhouse on the city’s outskirts, the police reach his home in the hills for interrogation. However, they find him dead in his house, with his throat slashed. What follows, will form the plot of the story that is mainly expected to depend on suspense and action, sprinkled with doses of humour, to hold the attention of viewers.
Another murder mystery set in the hills, Inspector Nalinikanta 2 feeds into this popular genre by employing the usual tactics. The hills, with their tall trees, dense forests and shadowy mists, add to the atmosphere of secrecy and intrigue, which the police officer from Calcutta must unravel if he has to get to the bottom of the crime that he has been assigned to solve. The beautiful locations of the mountainous terrain also make for pleasurable viewing and offer some sort of relief from the action-packed sequences of the series.
The trailer also introduces most of the important characters of the series. Besides, Nalinikanta’s wife Parama, who accompanies him on his trip to North Bengal, is Shakya, a sub-inspector of a police station in the hilly district where the action of the story takes place. Amrita Chattopadhyay plays a pivotal role as Nandini, the love interest of Supriya. A triangular love affair is also hinted at in the trailer, with Nandini in a relationship with another man, marking the latter as one of the key suspects involved in Supriya’s mysterious death. Most of the characters in the series appear to have grey shades, adding layers and complexities to the plot, which is expected to be full of twists and turns, leading to a surprising revelation in the end.
Supported by actors Chhandak Choudhury, Suprabhat Das, Raja Chatterjee and others in important roles, Rajatava Dutta as the delightfully amusing, food-loving and bumbling inspector Nalinikanta will beyond doubt entertain viewers when the series starts streaming later this month.
