A lot has been happening in the film industries down south lately. Besides the trailers of big banner films headlined by stars like Fahadh Faasil, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni, many other developments in the southern film industries kept social media abuzz over the weekend.
Here’s a recap of all the important happenings down south and a list of much-anticipated projects.
Raghava Lawrence’s Chandramukhi 2 (Tamil)
Chandramukhi 2, a sequel to the Rajinikanth blockbuster Chandramukhi, is the next project for Raghava Lawrence and director P Vasu. The film went on the floors on Friday and Lawrence took to Twitter to announce the same. He sought the blessings of Rajinikanth before the shooting began.
Lawrence and P Vasu had made the 2017 horror film Shivalinga. MM Keeravani of RRR fame will be scoring the music of Chandramukhi 2.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam teaser (Malayalam)
The second teaser of Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam sees superstar Mammootty masterfully enacting Sivaji’s popular dialogue from the 1973 Tamil film Gauravam at a local bar.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakam is directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery and written by S Hareesh. The film also co-stars Asokan, Ramya Pandian, Thennavan, Prashanth Murali and Kainakary Thankaraj. The film is bankrolled by Mammooty under the banner Mammootty Kampany, in association with Amen Movie Monastery.
Dejavu teaser (Tamil)
The trailer of Dejavu, starring Arulnithi and Madhoo, was released by the makers. In this Arvindh Srinivasan directorial, a writer files a complaint that the characters he writes are threatening him. As the police dismiss it as weird, all of his writings, which are mostly murder and thriller stories, start to happen in real life.
The cast also includes Achyuth Kumar, Ragav Vijay, Smruthi Venkat, Chetan, Kaali Venkat, and Mime Gopi. The film is produced by Vijay Pandi K and has Ghibran composing the music.
Mareechika (Telugu)
The title with a poster of National award-winning director Sathish Kasetty’s upcoming film Mareechika was released by the makers. The film is headlined by Anupama Parameswaran, Regina Cassandra, and Viraj Ashwin. Ashwin shared the poster on Twitter. The poster carries the tagline ‘Love, Betrayal, Revenge’.
Mareechika is produced by One More Hero Media and Lakshmi Bhupala Entertainment. It is an Ilaiyaraaja musical.
Pa Ranjith’s Natchathiram Nagargiradhu (Tamil)
A short character introduction video of director Pa Ranjith’s upcoming romantic drama Natchathiram Nagargiradhu was released. The video features the ensemble cast of Kalaiyarasan, Dushara Vijayan, Kalidas Jayaram and Shabeer Kallarakkal, among others.
Natchathiram Nagargiradhu is a romantic film based on the theme ‘Love is political’ and traces the story of theatre artistes. The actors will play the members of a theatre group and the video gives us a glimpse of each person’s opinion on love. The film has music by Tenma and lyrics by Uma Devi and Arivu.
Nenu Meeku Baaga Kavalsinavaadini (Telugu)
The teaser of Kiran Abbavaram’s upcoming film Nenu Meeku Baaga Kavalsinavaadini shows him as a cab driver. Baba Bhaskar plays his sidekick in this Sridhar Gadhe directorial.
Sanjana Anand and Sonu Thakur are also part of the cast. The screenplay and dialogues are penned by Abbavaram. Produced by Kodi Divya Deepthi, the film has music by Manisharma.
