Actor R. Madhavan on Thursday extended his best wishes to the cast and crew of Pradeep Chakravorty’s upcoming film Surjo, a Bengali adaptation of Madhavan’s 2021 Tamil-language romantic drama Maara.

“Maara was very, very special. The story, characters, and depiction were absolutely beautiful. I could relate so much to the character. I would like to wish Pradeep Chakravorty, the producer of Maara, his actor Vikram Chatterjee, and the entire cast and crew of Surjo all the very best for this adaptation. I hope Surjo and all of the cast win the hearts of people across the world like the original film. This also releases in theatres on the 19th of July. Do watch,” said Madhavan in a video he shared on Instagram.

Madhavan’s video was re-shared by Vikram Chatterjee, who plays the titular role in Surjo. “Here’s #Maara wishing #Surjo a fantastic run at the cinemas and straight into the audiences hearts. Cant thank you enough Maddy sir, all my love,” read Vikram’s caption on Instagram.

Maara, also produced by Pradeep Chakravorty, followed a restoration architect Parvathy (Shraddha Srinath) in her quest for an artist named Maara (Madhavan). Directed by Dhilip Kumar, Maara also featured Abhirami and Sshivada in key roles. The film was released on Amazon Prime Video on January 8, 2021.

Maara was itself an adaptation of Martin Prakkat’s 2015 Malayalam movie Charlie, which starred Dulquer Salmaan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Aparna Gopinath in the lead roles.

Led by Vikram Chatterjee, Surjo also stars Madhumita Sarcar as Uma and Darshana Banik as Diya. Directed by Shieladitya Moulik, it is slated to hit theatres on July 19.
