Where is Pushpa? Fans of Allu Arjun-starrer Pushpa: The Rise had been left wondering after the makers had dropped a 20-second teaser of the upcoming sequel Pushpa The Rule on Friday on April 5. The mystery was finally revealed today, after a second teaser — three minutes and 15 seconds long this time — was shared by the team as an advance birthday gift for the film’s lead actor.

“The #HuntForPushpa ends and 𝗣𝗨𝗦𝗛𝗣𝗔'𝗦 𝗥𝗨𝗟𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗦 🔥 Happy Birthday to Icon Star @alluarjun🔥 #HappyBirthdayAlluArjun,” the official Twitter handle of the movie posted.

The video begins with a reporter claiming that Pushpa has escaped from the Tirupati jail with gunshot wounds. He was grievously injured with 10 rounds of bullets when police tried to recapture him. When the police begin a manhunt in the forest of Seshachalam for Pushpa, his clothes, with eight bullet holes, are found in the jungle. As the rumours of Pushpa’s death circulate, a furious mob take to the streets in protest and their demonstrations rage on for over a month.

Amidst this unrest a news channel makes a breakthrough discovery — one of the closed-circuit cameras in the forest, which were installed to monitor tigers, caught a glimpse of Pushpa. The CCTV footage shows a tiger moving towards the camera, apparently angry after seeing a human form behind it. However, the tiger takes two steps backwards when the man moves ahead to face the camera. It is none other than the darling of the masses — Pushpa.

Executing his signature hand gesture, Pushpa looks into the camera. “When animals take two steps backward in a forest, it means a tiger is nearby. But when a tiger takes two steps backward, it means Pushpa has arrived,” he utters.

Celebrations begin immediately after Pushpa’s video goes on air. The teaser ends with Pushpa, in his trademark shirt and trousers, sitting on a chair and proclaiming, “It’s time for Pushpa’s rule.”

Written and Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa: The Rule also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Dhanunjay, Rao Ramesh, Suneel, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Ajay Ghosh in significant roles. Pushpa: The Rule is expected to release in theatres later this year or in early 2024.
