Nag Ashwin’s Project K became the first-ever Indian film to unveil its first glimpse and official title — Kalki 2989 AD — at the San Diego Comic-Con in the US on Thursday.
The event, attended by Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Rana Daggubati, saw the release of the upcoming film’s teaser featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Prabhas as warriors in a futuristic world ravaged by dark forces.
The one-minute-nine-second clip, which seems to have been highly inspired by Star Wars and Marvel productions, showcases a dystopian society with visuals of orphaned children and slaughtered people. Then we see a new force emerging to counter the darkness and some stylistic action scenes by Prabhas. We also see a glimpse of Deepika alongside a bandaged-up Amitabh. The video also shows the lines, “When the world is taken over by darkness, a force will arise. The end begins now.”
After building up anticipation, the panel also revealed that the official title of the fantasy sci-fi project would be called Kalki 2898 AD, which started trending on social media immediately after the announcement.
Deepika Padukone was absent at the event at the comic-con reportedly due to the ongoing actors’ strike in Hollywood. The actress is a member of Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and will adhere to the guidelines issued by the union.
