Directed by Addinath M. Kothare, the film was originally released in India in 2019. It won the award for the best film on environment conservation at the 66th National Film Awards that year. Additionally, the film was screened at the New York Film Festival in the United States in 2019.

Starring Subodh Bhave and Kishore Kadam, Paani explores the daily struggles of living in the drought-stricken village of Nagderwadi in Maharashtra.

Paani is presented by Rajshri Entertainment in association with Kothare Vision Pvt Ltd. The film is backed by Priyanka’s home banner, Purple Pebble Pictures. The actress’s mother, Madhu Chopra, is also credited as one of the producers. The other producers include Neha Barjatya and the late Rajjat Barjatya, with Mahesh Kothare and Priyanka’s younger brother Siddharth Chopra serving as associate producers.

Priyanka launched her own production company, Purple Pebble Pictures, in 2015. The Mumbai-based production house has backed various films, including Ventilator (2016) and The Sky Is Pink (2019).

Priyanka also served as the executive producer for the Oscar-nominated documentary To Kill a Tiger (2024). Further, Priyanka recently announced that she has joined Canadian filmmaker Barry Avrich’s upcoming documentary Born Hungry as a producer.

The 42-year-old actress has wrapped up shooting for her upcoming action film The Bluff, helmed by Frank Ewen Flowers. This project marks her second collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios and AGBO, following the spy action series Citadel, which has already been renewed for a second season. Priyanka is also set to star in Ilya Naishuller’s Heads of State alongside Idris Elba, John Cena, Paddy Considine, Stephen Root and Carla Gugino.
