Amazon Prime Video India has announced its first Tamil original series, Suzhal – The Vortex, written and created by action thriller Vikram Vedha directors Pushkar and Gayatri.
The series will premiere on June 17, the OTT platform announced on Friday during the 22nd IIFA Weekend and Awards.
The eight-part crime thriller revolves around the investigation of a missing girl in a small town of southern India.
Produced by Wallwatcher Films, Suzhal - The Vortex has been directed by Anucharan M and Bramma, who calls it an “important” show for the country.
“This is not a story of one particular industrial town in Tamil Nadu, it is a story of every town across the world... These characters, emotions are universal, but have a regional context. It’s an important show for the entire country,” he said at the event.
This eight-episode crime series will feature a talented cast of Kathir, Aishwarya Rajesh and Sriya Reddy alongside veteran actor Radhakrishnan Parthiban in crucial roles.
Aparna Purohit, head of India Originals, Amazon Prime Video, unveiled Suzhal – The Vortex at the ongoing International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) Weekend at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
Purohit described Suzhal as a “taut and poignant” show and said that its strength is its strong emotional core which will resonate with the audience.
With the anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai, Amazon Prime Video made its debut in Tamil-language original commissions in 2020. Suzhal is the first long-form single narrative episodic series of the platform.
Suzhal – The Vortex will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and English as well as in international languages such as French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Castilian Spanish, Latin Spanish, Arabic and Turkish.
It will be available for streaming June 17 onwards.
