Apple TV+ has teased 11 new limited shows featuring actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Colin Farrell and Michael Douglas as part of its 2024 content slate, the streaming platform announced on X via a sizzle reel and first-look pictures. Here’s a look.
Presumed Innocent
Based on the 1987 novel of the same name by Scott Turow, this eight-episode courtroom drama follows a prosecutor (Jake Gyllenhaal) who turns the judicial system upside down after he is accused of killing his colleague. The series is created by David E. Kelly, who is known for making legal thrillers like The Practice, Boston Legal, The Lincoln Lawyer and L.A Law.

Lady in the Lake
Based on Laura Lippman's novel, Lady in the Lake marks Portman’s first television venture alongside Moses Ingram and Mikey Madison. It follows the story of a housewife and mother, Maddie Schwartz (Portman), who revives her career as an investigative journalist after a murder goes unsolved by the police.

Franklin
Franklin is a biopic of Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States who embarked on a mission to France to “underwrite America’s democracy”. Led by Michael Douglas, the miniseries follows Franklin’s time in France where he attempted to create an alliance with the French as the first US ambassador to the country.

Dark Matter
Based on Blake Crouch’s bestselling book, Dark Matter stars Joel Edgerton as a professor and family man who gets abducted into an alternate reality of his life while walking the streets of Chicago at night. Also starring Jennifer Connelly, the series will follow Joel’s Jason Dessen, who embarks on a mission to return to his family and save them from his dangerous alternate self.

Sugar
Starring Colin Farrell, this eight-episodic series is a fresh sci-fi spin on a detective noir story. Farrell, known for his roles in True Detective and The North Water, plays private detective John Sugar, who conducts a dogged investigation into the mysterious disappearance of legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel’s granddaughter.

Palm Royale
Set in 1969, the miniseries stars Kristen Wiig as an ambitious woman who wants to join the prestigious Palm Royale Country Club at any cost. But she faces opposition from another woman played by Allison Janney. Featuring a star-studded cast including Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Laura Dern and Kaia Gerber, Palm Royale will give a glimpse into the lives of a bunch of women living in 1960s California.

The New Look
Set against the Nazi-occupied France during World War II, The New Look will unravel the stories of various fashion icons like Coco Chanel, Christian Dior and their contemporaries. The miniseries stars Ben Mendelsohn, Juliette Binoche, Maisie Williams and John Malkovich in lead roles.

Manhunt
Within seven episodes, Manhunt will unravel one of the “best known but least understood crimes in history” — the assassination of US president Abraham Lincoln. Following real-life incidents in the aftermath of Lincoln’s assassination, Manhunt will give a picture of the conspiracy against the president and how the murderer, John Wilkes Booth, was found by lawmen.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin
Noel Fielding plays Dick Turpin, who is on his way to become the most dangerous highway robber of the 18th century. The six-episode miniseries will follow the “completely made-up” adventures of Turpin and also star Hugh Bonneville in a key role.

Noomi Rapace plays an astronaut who survives a disastrous space accident and makes her way to earth all by herself after losing her colleagues. Once back on earth, Rapace’s character is shocked to find that key figures of her life, including her daughter, are missing.

Based on Sandra Barneda’s novel of the same name, Land of Women follows the journey of three generations of women who are forced to leave New York to a little village in Spain due to small-town gossip. Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria stars in this miniseries, which will have six episodes.
